Let’s be real for a second: choosing a location for your family photo session can feel like trying to solve a Rubik’s cube… blindfolded… while also juggling everyone's schedules (looking at you, teen with a job and social life). And don’t even get me started on coordinating outfits without a full-on mutiny.

But figuring out where to go? That can feel like the final straw.

Don’t worry—I’ve got you. I’ve rounded up five of my absolute favorite spots for Phoenix family photography sessions. Whether you're booking maternity photos, a fun shoot with your wild toddlers, or wrangling the whole extended fam, these locations are tried-and-true.

This list is made up of locations on the west side of the Phoenix Valley (I’m a Surprise-based family photographer!). So all you West siders who feel like the locations around us are limited, this list is for you!

1. White Tank Mountains

This one had to be first because I’m obsessed. The White Tank Mountains are perfect if you're dreaming of a backdrop that screams “Yep, this is Arizona!”

Want cacti? Check.

Looking for a mountainous desert feel? Check and check.

It’s a versatile spot that works beautifully for family sessions, maternity photos, and even senior portraits. If you're into the warm glow of golden hour and sweeping desert views, this is your place.

(But if you're anti-desert, hang tight—the next few spots might be more your style.)

2. Verrado

Verrado has all the small-town charm. Tree-lined streets, beautiful architecture, and gorgeous landscaping make it a total fave for Phoenix area photographers.

Heads up: it's popular. So don’t be surprised if you see a few other photographers there doing their thing (sometimes six or more!). But hey, that just means it’s awesome, right?

Want something slightly more urban and less crowded? There’s a nearby spot with an epic archway and modern vibes—just minutes away from the main Verrado area. Ask me about it when you book!

3. Surprise Civic Center 

If you’re local to Surprise, you probably know these iconic archways—and if you don’t, you're in for a treat.

This spot is a hidden gem in West Valley family photography!

Between the bold blue wall, the pretty landscaping, and seasonal pops of bougainvillea (yes, those dreamy bright pink flowers), it’s a playful, unique spot that photographs so well.

4. Goodyear Civic Square

This one’s a newer favorite of mine and it's quickly becoming a client go-to.

Goodyear Civic Square doesn’t even look like Arizona! (In the best way.)

There are rows of trees, clean architectural lines, and tons of variety for backdrops.

Whether you're going for modern, natural, or somewhere in between, it’s a flexible location that works for all kinds of photo sessions.

5. Downtown Phoenix

You can’t talk about Phoenix family photography locations without mentioning the heart of the city.

Downtown Phoenix is full of possibilities!

Think vibrant murals in Roosevelt Row, modern city backdrops, and even the top of a parking garage for those dramatic skyline shots (trust me, they’re so cool).

It’s edgy, artsy, and full of personality—just like your crew!
